A Paper Cutting Adventure

Last year, Katy Sue Designs added a paper cutting version of its very popular craft pads, Adventures in Paper Cutting to the range. This was the first time the company had ever produced for this particular niche of the craft market, and were blown away by the response from the national press and the general public.

Managing Director Susan Balfour explained “I personally love the look of this craft and when the younger staff asked to try it I knew this had a wider appeal than other types of craft. I think it’s because you need so little to get started, just a sharp scalpel and a cutting mat and you can go from start to finish. It takes a surprisingly short time to complete and the finished pieces are beautiful. I took some home over Christmas and loved it!”

Adventures in Paper Cutting contains 36 design sheets which increase in levels of skill, with 12 different designs from simple to more advanced art, including dream catchers, trees, flowers, birds and many other designs. With the process of cutting, the designs becoming a meditative process by which you become intently aware of the intricate designs, shape and process of creating a stunning, hand designed piece of delicate artwork, perfect for framing. The range is made in the UK, printed onto high quality 170gsm FSE paper.

The gorgeous and slightly quirky designs in pad drew the attention of several national news websites and even the national printed press, who all pointed out the meditate nature of this type of crafting, sitting quietly with some concentration allowing worries to fade away. Emma Boyes is one of the UK’s most talented paper cutting artists. She first put scalpel to paper in 2010, and is now a full-time paper artist, working from her studio at home and exhibiting her work throughout the UK. Emma creates works of art for both private clients and commercially for companies such as Fossil (Watch Station International) and the international paper company, G F Smith. Having always been creative, Emma studied design at university and this certainly shows in her sought after imaginative designs, which have gained her an invite to the invitation only Paper Artists Collective, a Global community of super talented paper artists.
