Rockcoco joins Worshipful Company of Fan Makers

Denise Frankel, the co-owner of the first luxury hand fan producer in London for more than 100 years, Rockcoco Fans, has joined other exquisite crafting firms who have the privilege of voting for the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs of the City of London. Her appointment to the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, a City of London Livery Company, comes after a close inspection of the firm by the Fan Makers’ Free Warden, Dr Michael Smith FRSA, FRAeS.

“When we started the business our dream was to create luxurious fans, and to have now received this recognition is truly an honour. We take our inspiration and ethos from the quality makers that went before us and we really enjoy working closely with people and helping them to choose each tiny detail,” says Denise Frankel.

The appointment recognises that the high-end, classic and bespoke fans created by Rockcoco are made using only the finest materials, which are often bedazzled with precious or semi-precious gemstones, which can be set in white, yellow and rose gold, or silver and platinum. Ms Frankel was first introduced to the Worshipful Company in 2016, before later becoming a Liveryman. Later this year, she’ll also be able to vote for the City’s representatives.

Rockcoco Fans is run by business partners and sisters Denise Frankel and Janis Sher. Their aim is to re-introduce fans as a fashion item for the modern woman. The company source their fabrics from Joel and Son Fabrics London, a heritage company under Royal Warrant. The English Livery Companies were first recorded in the 12th century and The Worshipful Company of Fan Makers traces its formation back to 1668. Today, in keeping with all other Livery Companies, its main purpose is the promotion of charitable causes, the education of young people, the welfare of the communities they serve, and the promotion of their trades or professions.

In respect of the Fan Makers, those trades are not just ladies’ fans, but in the modern era also such industries as aerospace and ventilation. Its members celebrate their 350th anniversary in 2018.
